In my real life, I own a small company which provides web hosting services for small to medium size businesses. After trying to download some PDF files on qsl.net and having it take 7 hours, I thought there must be a better solution. I have a number web servers in a datacenter which are tied via an OC-48 optical cable to the Eastern Network Access Point in Vienna, Virginia. The bandwidth is 100mb/sec from the servers. Unfortunately, they are not free but the cost isn't too bad. If I can get enough hams to sign up for the service, I can provide a stand-alone server strickly for ham radio use. I am going to set the cost at what I feel would be a reasonable cost to help cover my expenses. If enough persons sign up for it, I will be able to drop the monthly cost down - so the more websites I host, the less the cost will be.
For $5.00/month here's what you get: Since I am a domain registrar, I can register a domain name for $15.00/yr. which includes setup of the domain name on the name server. Once you have a domain name and name server setup, your website will be accessable via both www.yourdomain.ext and yourdomain.nhbweb.net. Already have your domain name? You can keep your registrar and just move the domain to this server for the $20.00 one-time fee. By hosting with me, you will also be supporting my database effort with WSJT and the VHF & Up registers. If you are interested, please contact me for further details. |
